I had more ultrasounds than anyone I know. There was a concern about amniotic fluid. For the last two trimesters, I had none. The doctors couldn't figure it out and they believed I was in labor and kept asking me if my water had broken. The truth was, Maddux was protecting himself. The bowels are not supposed to float in the amniotic fluid and they become damaged if they do. Therefore, Maddux caged them using his arms on either side and touching his toes to his forehead. He stayed that way for most of my pregnancy. The result was very good. The doctors were quite impressed with the lack of damage to his bowels.
